Gwybodaeth am yr arddangosfa gan Mostyn:


Mae gosodwaith Carwyn Evans, gyda’i atgynhyrchiad cyfoes sgleiniog o gysgodfeydd traddodiadol glan môr Llandudno, yn gartref i gyfres o ddelweddau symudol o rai o drigolion ac ymwelwyr y dref. Y tu blaen i un o’r cysgodfeydd go iawn, saif tu allan i Venue Cymru, gwahoddwyd pobl i aros a sefyll am ennyd, a throi eu golygon tua’r môr. Wrth eu cymell i gymryd hoe fel hyn roedd meddyliau’n troi tuag at fyfyrdod tawel.

Mae aros a syllu ar olygfa llanw’r môr a’r gorwel yn y pellter, gyda’i sicrwydd digyfnewid oesol, yn rhoi lle diogel i lywio myfyrdod i hedfan neu lanio; cyrraedd neu adael. Wrth syllu ar rywbeth sy’n aros yr un fath o hyd mae’n ysgogi myfyrdod dros newidiadau bywyd a threigl amser.

Trwy gyfrwng y gosodwaith yn yr oriel a lluniau llonydd wedi’u gosod yn amryw o’r cysgodfeydd sy’n amlinellu promenâd Llandudno mae Carwyn Evans yn ein gwahodd ni i efelychu’r cymeriadau yn y delweddau, i gysgodi am ennyd a myfyrio, ac efallai sylwi o gornel ein llygaid ar adlewyrchiad ein cysgod ein hunain yn yr arwyneb du sgleiniog.

Cafodd Cysgod ei gomisiynu gan Adain Avion, prosiect Artistiaid yn Cymryd y Blaen sy’n rhan o ŵyl Llundain 2012, Olympiad Diwylliannol Llundain 2012.

Carwyn Evans’s installation Cysgod, which translates as both ‘shelter’ and ‘shadow’, with its black shiny modern replica of one of Llandudno’s traditional beach shelters is home to a contemporary moving image series of some of the town’s residents and visitors. In front of one of the actual shelters outside Venue Cymru people were invited to stand for a while and turn to look seawards. By encouraging people to take a break like this thoughts inevitably turn towards quiet contemplation.

Staying put and gazing at the sea tide and the horizon in the distance, with its assurance of unchanging timelessness, gave the viewer a safe haven for reflection to inform flight or landing; arrival or leaving. Gazing at something which remains the same over time stimulates reflection on life’s changes nd the march of time.

Through the installation in the gallery and still portraits installed in some of the sheters that line Llandudno’s promenade Carwyn Evans invites us to emulate the characters in the images, to take refuge for a minute and take a moment to contemplate, and perhaps out of the corner of our eye, catch a reflection of our own shadow on the glossy black surface.

Carwyn Evans says:
“ I wanted to create artwork that combined a number of my interests centering around contribution and a sense of place, but wanted to do this in some way that was different and ambitious. Seeing the empty windows in the shelters, I decided that this was the perfect framework on which to base an artwork and add a new insight on the town, extending to discuss broader aspects."
